Mrs. Right for Now
In moments of solitude
when you bare yourself to your naked core
and strip the layers of poetry
away
it's then that you find a will of honesty
to admit that he was never yours to have
he was there
merely to gaze upon until he was finished
and through this crippling understanding
you will find the dignity
to maintain your pose
and find the strength to return him
to what he always wanted more

Mother
When raising your daughter I would say
tuck her into bed each night
even when she insists that she's too old
fold the covers over her
and lay a hand
so that your warmth is ever present
Read a prayer to her before she sleeps
Do not insist that she participates
Instead, let her experience
the joy of you bringing God into the room
just for the love of her
Teach your daughter that mistakes are moments to grow
Show her the scar from the time that you were young
and carelessly knocked coal from the fire right onto your lap
Laugh as you tell her of how you tried to pick up the burning ember
so it would not burn your thigh
and burned your hand instead
Now, tell her that her burnt pancakes
can always be smothered in honey
She will learn to forgive herself

I am
I am a woman
And I carry the implication of this word everywhere
I am all things natural
I am all things unnatural
I am humanity in a glance

Pieces
We leave ourselves
in pieces
so others can be whole

The Danger of Living Cautiously
It's true
her fear?
It was written everywhere
on her skin
in between the crevices of her faith
This fear she harboured
radiated out from her pores
slowly choked the words from around her throat
she began to shed any semblance of herself
over and over and over
until all she was
was a scab of the work that fear left behind

sCATTERED
My mind is a rusted door
Left on an ancient home
forgotten
neglected
aching with time
dull metal slowly
creak
creak
creaking

Divided
Time divides us;
A war keeps us
from being neighbours
borrowing cups of sugar
saying I love you
Instead now we must look for
a phone card to use
to say those words because
those overseas charges
are too expensive
for us foreigners
away from home
making due
with broken tongues

During Sunrise
The world gapped open
with potential
With promise
with the reassurance of rebirth
In the illumination of newness
You finally understood that the horizon teemed
with everything you denied yourself
And surely your heart wept for joy

Plays heavily
against flickering eyelids
You live in that moment
The one where the goosebumps
Grow to overbearing scars
That embed themselves into skin that is
Layered in your womanhood like tattoos
You return obsessively
To the feel of pumping hearts
Thud thud
Thumping
Closer to the surface of your sanity
Until you no longer know night from day
Despite your best intentions
Your too weak to close mind away
from the dizzying taste of new flesh
The intoxicating image of skin upon
Freshly dampened skin
Moistness soaking through pores
Obsession has taken new heights
and you find yourself
Only able to cum within the extremes
