2015 is almost here and I could not be more excited! These last few months have been beautifully chaotic and sensationally full! Spoken Funk took on a bit of a hiatus to make room for other shows (stay tuned for my next blog about the last show, Black Girls Rock) but I'm so excited to announce that the Funk is back and at its original location.
Spoken Funk started in July of 2013 when the good people over at Green Bean took a chance on a girl with a dream. I always wanted to create a space for artistic expression, a place where people could come and explore their own voices and experience that of others. The idea behind the Funk is to create a welcoming, stimulating and entertaining space where people can connect artistically. Over the last year I've had the pleasure of meeting so many new faces and creating memories I'll cherish for a lifetime. All thanks to Ben Davidson, the baristas at the Green Bean, and most importantly, thanks to the artists and friends that come out each and every month to support, to love and to encourage.
Art is for the people, art is about the people and art is made by the people, and man, there are some amazing people here in Windsor and Michigan! (Oh, have I mentioned how many talented and amazing people actually travel from Michigan?).
All forms of expressions are loved, encouraged and wanted! So bring yourself and grab a friend because the Funk is back for 2015 and I am so excited to see what the year has in store for us!
Hope to see you out!
Peace,
Amina.
